NAMI Metropolitan Baltimore Celebrates 35 Years of Service

If you live in or near the Baltimore area, come celebrate NAMI Metropolitan Baltimore’s 35th Anniversary of service. The performance features six storytellers who share their experience living with — or loving someone with — a mental health condition. Through powerful anecdotes, original music, and poetry, the storytellers will share their journeys through challenges and triumphs of mental health and hope for recovery.

The evening’s narrator will be Emmy-award winning actor, Zeljko Ivanek, who stars in the CBS show “Madam Secretary.” His many TV and film credits include “The Mentalist,” “Three Billboard Outside Ebbings,” “Argo,” “Seven Psychopaths,” the Baltimore-based “Homicide: Life on the Streets,” and many others.

The event takes place Thursday, September 27, 2018. The reception begins at 6 p.m. followed by the program at 7:30 p.m.

Here are some quotes by the storytellers:

Ellen Cherry: “Just because something is invisible, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. I want to sing about my resilience.  I want my song to make visible what you cannot see.”

Kondwani Fidel: “I might not have a one-sized-fits-all solution when it comes to helping people with their mental wellness. However, I know that having the courage to speak about it is the first step”.

Andrea Landry-Brown: “The light at the end of the tunnel is hope and not a train!”

Dan Hale: “Now, more than ever, we must fight the stigma that is still too often associated with mental illness.”

Michael Teitelbaum: “Hope springs eternal.”

Gertie Wilson: “Although life appears stuck in a shattered maze; there is hope in the horizon.”
