  1. Its humbling, frustrating, and maddening, to realize that we cannot free ourselves of illness, pain, and distress by our own will, by trying harder, or even with the good intentioned help of others. These are wonderful prayers, with the potential and power to lead us toward healing by reaching outside of ourselves. Easier said than done, and mere recitation or following a recipe isn’t sufficient – but is an essential step in the right direction.

This is late to respond, but maybe someone will hear.
I Am hopefully crawling from an episode of >year duration. Depression, mixed state, manic. Had memorized this beautiful some time ago. But doe you think I could recite it or even remember that it exists during the crisis? Somewhere in the bible it says the Holy Spirit prays for us when we can’t, hope so.

    Oh God,
Refresh and gladden my spirit, purify my heart, ilumine my powers,
I lay all my affairs in Thy hands.
Thou are my guide and my refuge.
I will no longer be sorrowful and grieved,
I will be a happy and a joyful being.
Oh God I will know longer be full of anxiety,
Nor will I let trouble harass me.
I will not dwell on the unpleasant things of life
    Oh God,
Thou are more friend to me
    Than I am to myself.
I dedicate my life to Thee,
    Oh Lord.
